A Busy Month Lecturing, Developing & Then Taking Some Time Off...
August has been another whirlwind of activity, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Between lecturing, placement visits, and marking for the University of Winchester and UEA Health, the month has flown by. But that wasn't it—I've also been making exciting strides in some new projects and collaborations while managing to carve out time for a much-needed break.
Lecturing and Placement Visits: A Rewarding Challenge
As always, lecturing and placement visits are a big part of my freelance work. Supporting students from the University of Winchester has been really rewarding.
My work University of East Anglia has been very busy - not only marking, but lecturing and hosting training sessions to help the dietetic team at UEA.
Innovating with AI in Dietetics Education
On top of my teaching roles, I’ve been diving into some really exciting new territory—designing an AI tool aimed at enhancing a part of dietetics education. It’s still in its early stages, but the potential this tool has for transforming how we teach student dietitians is huge. Stay tuned for updates as this project takes shape!
HEI Practice Education Project: Progress with the BDA
Another highlight this month has been continuing work on the BDA on the HEI practice education project. This project is close to my heart, as it addresses the ever-growing need to innovate within dietetics practice education. The placement gap is a real challenge, and working with the BDA to come up with creative solutions is a big step toward ensuring that the next generation of dietitians get experience in non-clinical areas of dietetic practice.
Collaborations in the Practice Education World
One of the most exciting developments this month has been my new collaborations with other freelance dietitians who share my passion for practice education. We’ve started brainstorming ways to pool our knowledge and resources to create even more impactful placements for students. These collaborations have been a great reminder of the power of community and shared goals, and I’m really looking forward to seeing where they lead.
Work-Life Balance: Two Weddings, a Hen Do and a Break in Cornwall
As hectic as the month has been, I’ve also managed to find time for myself—and that’s just as important! I spent a couple of weeks unwinding in beautiful Cornwall, soaking up the sun and recharging my batteries. I hosted my bestie's hen do in Cheltenham and to top it all off, I had the privilege of celebrating two wonderful couples getting married. It’s always refreshing to step away from work for a bit and come back with fresh energy and perspective.
As I reflect on this busy month, I’m reminded of how lucky I am to be able to balance my freelance career with personal time and new, innovative projects. Whether it’s working with students, collaborating with other dietitians, or pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in dietetics education, every day brings something new and exciting.
Here’s to another month full of growth, learning, and making strides in the field of dietetics! 🌟
